Each STEM club starts with a team challenge. This week students were challenged to create a cup tower without touching the cups with their hands. They were given a rubber band with yarn tied to the sides. Each team had their own unique strategy to stack the cups but in the end everyone was a winner!
Lego Movie Maker app was the tool used this week to finish our 2 day challenge to create a stop motion animation film. Students used the Lego set that they created last week to act out the plot they created. Editing, film speed, music, graphic and a steady hand helped to create some one of a kind movies. Great Job!
Our Willard East Library has had our very own fish for most of this school year. The students named him "Tiger" and he has lived a pretty normal quiet fish life. That is until Easter weekend. Students have used spiral writing notebooks to write notes and letters to Tiger throughout the year. Some have added pictures or poetry to Tiger's notebook as well. We returned from break to find that Tiger had been busy. He crafted his own letter back to the WEE students. It was a fun surprise for all of us! Thanks Tiger!
I'm so fortunate to have been asked again to help with 1st grade "genius hour". These ambitious students come to the library twice a week to research and learn more about a topic of their choice. This group wants to know more about ROBOTS. They have read books about robots, researched online about robots and then decided that they really wanted to try to MAKE a robot. Along with the battery powered robots, they have also created a Google presentation about robots and are looking forward to sharing their information with their classes soon. I know we ALL learned a lot! (check back later for a look at their presentation)
