Holidays in an elementary school are great, but Christmas in an elementary library are extra special. Of all the book genres we have, the Christmas book genre is the largest and most loved. We have 3 1/2 weeks to read as many of these wonderful books as possible. We started today with The Animals' Santa by Jan Brett.
I was fortunate enough to get to meet author/illustrator, Jan Brett in 2014. She spoke to a large group of people at the Springfield Greene County Library. She demonstrated how to draw a few of her beloved characters and stayed for a book signing. Our Willard East copy of The Animals' Santa has been autographed by Jan Brett!
After hearing the book this week, students have had the opportunity to try their own hand at drawing a Jan Brett woodland character. Today we watched Jan as she modeled drawing the Little Snowshoe. You can watch it also at the link below. Or log onto Jan Brett's website to experience MANY more videos and activities.
