My plan is to get started on these books over the summer and I hope you can too. As I finish one of the books from above, I’ll post a review on the Willard East facebook page. I would love to hear your thoughts about the books as you finish one. Ask a parent to check the school Facebook page and maybe they can help you comment on the reviews. If you want to tell me about the books you are reading, you can write to me. I’ll write back and keep your letters for a drawing. A few lucky winners will get a free book from the fall Scholastic book fair.
More Details:
Who: Willard East Fourth Grade Students
What: Reading for Fun! Focus will be on the Missouri Mark Twain Award Nominee Books for 2017-2018.
Where: Willard East Library
When: School Meetings: Once a month during lunch (you will get to eat your lunch in the library)
Why: Because Reading Is Awesome but talking about what we’ve read makes it even better!
A Few Extra Details:
Students!!
*You don’t have to attend every meeting.
*You may read the books independently by yourself, or listen to someone else read the book or a combination of both. (the last one is often my favorite)
*You may read one or all of the Mark Twain Award nominee books. It is up to you. If you read 4 of the books from the list, you will be invited to vote for the Missouri Association of School Librarians Mark Twain Award. If you read 5 or more of the books from the list, you will be part of the Book Club Hall of Fame and have your picture on display outside the library. If you read 10 of the award nominee books we will have a special luncheon to celebrate!
Please let me know if you have ANY questions. I can’t wait to get started! (actually, I’ve already started with Fish in a Tree and House Arrest) --Mrs. Hillenburg
